JMTA Meeting and Program JMTA Meeting - September 14, 2011
9912 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32257 The September meeting will be held on September 14 and will feature two of our members, Tara Mock and Lorraine Eaton. Tara and Lorraine will be presenting a program on how to reach prospective members and students in our community and beyond using social media (specifically Facebook). This will be an interactive program, so bring along your laptop if you have one. However, a laptop is not necessary to participate in this program. For those of you not familiar with Facebook, the program will begin with a description of what it is and how to use it by creating your own personal page. They will then present the recently created JMTA Facebook page and discuss content, how it can benefit you, and how best to use it, including etiquette. Finally, they will show how to create a Facebook page to advertise your own studio to the public. We all know that our society is becoming increasingly media driven, so learn to tap into this exciting resource to build your studio and interact with other music teachers! Mentors Needed! Remember when you first joined JMTA? Did you become fast friends with a certain member who seemed to know all the answers? Maybe you were also new to the city and needed help finding all the locations of our events? Or did you feel lost and overwhelmed? Let’s help all of our new members feel like they are an important, integral part of our organization from day one! You can help by becoming a mentor. It doesn’t take much time or effort. All you need to do is be available to one new member to answer their questions such as, how does Student Day work, where is Keyboard Connection, how do I enter my students in recitals, etc. Maybe even give them a ride to events/meetings if they are unfamiliar with our big city. If you happen to not know the answer to a certain question, they you can direct them to the chairperson of that particular area. Or even better, call up that chairperson yourself and then get the answer back to your “mentee.” We all know that we need each and every member of our organization to be active participants to a make it successful. So, YOU are needed so our new members can become active participants as well! If you would like to be a mentor to one new member, please let Lorraine Eaton know.
