General Meeting and Program

________________________________________________________________________ President’s Pen In 1983, I had the privilege of attending a workshop presented by Amanda Vick Lethco at Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN. A quote that she printed out for her presentation was from the book “The Craft of Teaching” by Kenneth E. Eble still in print today. It follows: “Developing as a teacher can be described as becoming wiser and less judgmental, more generous, less arrogant, being more honest with oneself and with subject matter, taking more risks; showing forth without showing off;….all these attributes are partly matters of personal development, but they are not unrelated to learning teaching techniques, acquiring knowledge, and expanding one’s professional range.” I hope that during this coming year your participation in JMTA activities will allow you to develop in this way. You will have an opportunity to share in teacher growth activities, your students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of musical growth activities and JMTA/FSMTA/MTNA offers a wide variety of programs/services to fit your needs. If there is a specific challenge that you are encountering right now in your teaching life, drop me an email [email protected] so we can work on this together as a Local Association. I look forward to seeing you at our first gathering on Wed, September 9, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. I look forward to hearing that you have registered students for our first special student activity of this fiscal year, the Multi-Piano Festival. Remember registration opens Sept 1 and closes Sept 30 – all info is online at www.jaxmta.org. Feel free to contact me, so I can direct you to the member with the answer to your question. See you soon. Paulette Kilts, President ________________________________________________________________________ MULTI-PIANO FESTIVAL: THE WORLD IS A STAGE Registration opens September 1rst! Myers, Florida. For the Teacher’s Recital at the Conference this year, JohnWillard Utuk will be representing District IV. A fundraising event at the Conference is the District Pride Drawing. Each district provides a gift valued at $50 or more, that is representative of their region. District IV is in need of ideas for this gift! If you have any ideas as to what might be a good item for the drawing, or you know of a business that might like to donate something, please let District President Lorraine Eaton know ASAP, as the deadline is approaching.
