JMTA STUDENT RECITALS
Student recitals will be held at 3 p.m. on the following dates:
  1. October 14 – Arlington United Methodist Church, 1400 N. University Blvd.
  2. December 9 – Christian Family Chapel, 10365 St. Augustine Rd.
  3. March 17 – Jacksonville University, Terry Concert Hall

Each student must pay a $5.00 participation fee. Please make copies of the form below for each student entered.

The following guidelines will help teachers to prepare:
  1. Teachers may have 4-5 students participate; however, the total performance time may not exceed 15 minutes for teachers with advanced students. Each student plays only one piece or movement.
  2. Solo performances are to be MEMORIZED. Duets may use music.
  3. Teachers are required to bring a PLATE of cookies. Serving platters will not be provided!
  4. Please stress to the students the importance of proper dress and that they are expected to remain for the entire performance. If a student does not have the whole afternoon free, ask them to wait until the next recital date. Instruct your students on the proper way to take a bow on stage.
  5. Students should arrive 15 minutes early to be seated and receive instructions!
  6. Teachers are required to attend in order to have students participate. Each teacher will be asked to assist with the program, either by bringing needed items, seating students, or setting up and serving refreshments.
  7. Information must be submitted ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE to ensure that student names will be included on the program. Please adhere to this deadline by sending the form below    and a check for the total amount (made to JMTA) to Gavin Taylor, 5212 Emerald Glades Ct., Jacksonville, FL 32277.

District Student Day 2013
District IV Student Day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2013 at FSCJ, South Campus.  At Student Day 2013 students will have the opportunity to excel at and showcase their musical performance, technique, aural skills and knowledge of music theory.

The FSMTA District Student Day program is one of the most comprehensive evaluation programs available.  Preparation for Student Day sharpens the musical skills of every student.  Focused attention to musical details, technique, theory, ear training, and memorizing all serve to cultivate a finer musician, and it all culminates on Student Day where students gather at Florida State College, Jacksonville to test their mettle.  Students also have the opportunity to meet fellow musicians as they attend recitals and wait to take their exams.
Student Day is a rich, rewarding experience, and when students see their certificates, and the medals are pinned or draped on their neck – they know it was worth every minute!

Please watch for date confirmation, and begin preparing your students to experience this great event!

Letter from the District President
This is going to be a very exciting year for all of us. We are having our own District IV Conference in March, 2013 at Jacksonville University. The dates will be March 15-17, 2013. On Friday evening in Terry Hall, there will be a recital featuring JMTA teacher/performers followed by a cocktail reception. Saturday will be a day of workshops with a banquet in the evening. On Sunday, the JMTA Student Rectal will be held in Terry Hall. This is going to be an exciting event, and a great time to invite our non-member friends who also teach music. Many thanks to Scott Watkins for arranging this.

2013 is also the year District IV is hosting the State FSMTA Conference. This will be held at the Omni Hotel, Jacksonville, November 6-9, 2013. Many thanks to Jo Plunkett for negotiating these facilities.

Both of these conferences will require a lot of helping hands. If you’ve never been involved in JMTA, now is the time to volunteer. There are already many of us who not only hold local offices and chairs, but are on the state executive board as well. If you are not currently involved, we will be calling you. Since we have many independent teachers already working on the State Conference, we are hoping the university teachers will be helping with the District Conference, which will be smaller. There will be more information next month.
Any teacher who would like to perform in the teacher recital should contact me, (Liz Kiebler) at pianoliz3@gmail.com. The board came up with a set of rules and I will e-mail these to anyone who contacts me. We have many members, so it will be “first come, first served” on the performing list. We already have performers who are interested so please hurry to contact me as performing time is limited.  -Liz Kiebler
