General Meeting and Program
Location: Keyboard Connection, October 14, 2015
________________________________________________________________________ President’s Pen It was great to see returning members and meet one new member at our September meeting. I thank our 2015 Summer Music Camp Scholarship winner Bailey Montgomery, student of Denise Homsley for performing Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” along with sharing photos and information about his learning experience during our program segment. The month of October begins our emphasis on the Piano Festival “The World is a Stage”. Our general membership meeting Wed, October 14 at Keyboard Connection will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. ending promptly at 10:15 a.m. with just enough time for refreshments before the first teacher performer rehearsal for the Piano Festival. We look forward to having Dr. MJ Palmer conduct the teacher repertoire for the Piano Festival. I hope that you have made plans to attend the Florida State Music Teachers Conference, a great time for teacher growth and networking. Details regarding the conference can be found at www.fmta.org. I will be attending representing JMTA at the Local Association and District President’s Luncheon meeting on Friday, October 23. I will present an annual report of JMTA activities and hear about other Florida Local Association activities. If you cannot attend this year, think about it for 2016 when the conference will be held in Orlando, October 27-30. If you are not busy preparing students for Piano Festival participation, I hope that they are working on participation in District Student Day. Information on this evaluation program can be found at www.fmta.org. Student Day Chair Denise Homsley reported that the event is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2016 on the Jacksonville University campus. See you October 14! Paulette Kilts and Lindsay Hardee, co-chairs ________________________________________________________________________ Student Recitals There will be no recitals in October and December this year due to the Multi-Piano Festival. Our regular student recital in March will be held on the 6th at Deermeadows Church. Myers, Florida. For the Teacher’s Recital at the Conference this year, Dr. Erin Bennett will be representing District IV. If you would like to represent District IV at a future conference, just let the current District President know, and the board will take your name under consideration. A fundraising event at the Conference is the District Pride Drawing. Each district provides a gift valued at $50 or more, that is representative of their region. District IV is in need of ideas for this gift! If you have any ideas as to what might be a good item for the drawing, or you know of a business that might like to donate something, please let District President Lorraine Eaton know ASAP, as the deadline is approaching. See you at the Conference! ________________________________________________________________________ District IV News
