President’s Pen
In my first article last September I quoted from a book by Amanda Vick Lethco about developing as a teacher. Now I give you an assignment along those same lines.

If you have not already read the article in the April/May 2016 “American Music Teacher” magazine entitled “Wild Rider In a Strange Land” by Alison S. Barr, NCTM , read it now.

She discusses sustaining relevance in the independent studio. Eight qualities are listed that she believes promote our “relevance quotient.” I paused to reflect on my independent studio and variations thereof during the last 40 years. It seems like the right time now to make a change in my career.

I hope that you will reflect on your studios/work places as well. She mentions the quality of generosity including “accepting yet another office for your local chapter.” At the May meeting members who are generous with their time will be installed for the 2016-2017 term. They are:
  • President, Lindsay Hardee
  • Vice- President (Membership)
  • Sarah Blazs; Recording Secretary
  • Susan Figlietti and continuing her term as Treasurer
  • Lorraine Eaton.

I am counting on you to support the work of JMTA through their leadership.
It has been my privilege to have had your support during my short term as President of JMTA. I wish you well as you continue to share your passion for music with your students.
Paulette Kilts, JMTA President
