General Meeting and Program
Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at St. John’s Cathedral, 256 E. Church Street, at 9:30 am JMTA meeting 9:30 a.m., when we will install the new officers of JMTA. Performances will be held at 10:15 a.m. Luncheon will be served at 11:00 a.m. St. John’s Cathedral is located: 256 E. Church Street and is between Church Street and Duval Street. Parking is on Church Street side, and is a grass lot. Come up the handicap ramp on the Church Street side. We are going to meet in Ingram Lounge. Coffee and Tea is provided We hope all can join us for this fun morning of music and food! ________________________________________________________________________ President’s Pen In my first article last September I quoted from a book by Amanda Vick Lethco about developing as a teacher. Now I give you an assignment along those same lines. If you have not already read the article in the April/May 2016 “American Music Teacher” magazine entitled “Wild Rider In a Strange Land” by Alison S. Barr, NCTM , read it now. She discusses sustaining relevance in the independent studio. Eight qualities are listed that she believes promote our “relevance quotient.” I paused to reflect on my independent studio and variations thereof during the last 40 years. It seems like the right time now to make a change in my career. I hope that you will reflect on your studios/work places as well. She mentions the quality of generosity including “accepting yet another office for your local chapter.” At the May meeting members who are generous with their time will be installed for the 2016-2017 term.
