JMTA Meeting and Program
JMTA Meeting - February 13, 2013
  • 9:15 A.M. –  Meet and Greet
  • 9:30 A.M. – Business Meeting
  • 10:30 A.M. – Program: Dr. Scott Watkins (see below for program description)
Jacksonville University
Terry Concert Hall
Jacksonville, Florida

The next JMTA meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13, at Jacksonville University.  Our program will be given by Dr. Scott Watkins.  He will share with us his experiences in China and relate how their program for piano differs.  We will meet in Terry Concert Hall in the Lobby area.  Parking is on the right as you enter the campus; Terry Concert Hall is the first building on the left.  Join us at 9:30 for the meeting.

From the President’s Pen
I am looking forward to seeing you all at Jacksonville University at our next meeting, February 13, to hear Scott Watkins’ presentation.  Student Day was another success and we thank Denise Homsley for all her hard work she puts into this event!  Please be sure to submit your Honors students into the Honors Recital for this Sunday.  It is truly a wonderful time spent listening to the hard work and dedication by these students.  We would not be a strong organization if we did not have membership out there putting in extra hours.  Thank you to JMTA!
Beth Martelli

JMTA General Minutes
JMTA GENERAL MEETING – January 9, 2013
Keyboard Connection

Members Present:  (14) Beth Martelli, Lorraine Eaton, Paulette Kilts, Lydia Sanchez, Susan Figlietti, Cheryl Cafrelli, Sue Holder, Erin Bennett, Sandra Roberts, Mary Wingfield, Martha McKie, Michelle Huang, Heather Schaeffer, and Denise Homsley.

President Beth Martelli called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m.

Paulette Kilts gave the Treasurer’s Report.   Paulette announced that JMTA’s 501c3 status has been reinstated.

Paulette made a motion to place the JMTA CD funds into the Free Checking account until after the 2013 State Conference.  Martha McKie seconded it.  Following a brief discussion, the motion passed.

Committee Reports:
Altruistic:  It was announced that Lindsay (formerly Johnson) had her baby.  Mary Wingfield said she will send a card.

Community Service:  Beth reminded everyone the application deadline is February 1.  The $40 application fee is paid by JMTA.

Concerto Competition:  The 2013 Concerto Competition will be March 16, 2013 and will be in conjunction with the District IV Conference at Jacksonville University.

High Notes:  The next High Notes deadline is January 20.

Historian:  Lorraine Eaton showed us the scrapbook she has recently updated.
Membership:  Lorraine Eaton distributed the new yearbooks to those who had yet to receive one.  Lorraine also announced a new member, Nikki Groff, is planning to attend the February meeting.

Publicity:  Beth Martelli reported that Heather Schaeffer is the new Publicity Chair.

Scholarship:  Beth Martelli reported that March 9, 2013 is the next Scholarship Competition.  The deadline will be two weeks prior.   Students entering the competition should prepare a 15 minute program.

Student Day:  Denise Homsley reported the date for 2013 Student Day is Saturday, February 2, 2013.  Sixteen teachers are participating and 83 students have registered.  Denise asked for volunteers to help with Student Day and the Honors Recital.

Student Recitals:  The March 17 Student Recital will be held at Jacksonville University.

New Business:
Beth reported that Jacksonville is hosting the 2013 FSMTA State Conference November 6-9, 2013.  The conference will be held at the Omni Hotel.
President Beth Martelli discussed a conversation she had with a parent of one of her students from Douglas Anderson who will be attending the European music camp this summer.  She mentioned that JMTA might be able to help by using sponsoring a fundraising recital March 1 by DA students.  The Mom (Laura Skiles) requested that donation checks be written to JMTA and then one check be written to Boukubza Academy Summer Study.  Paulette suggested that Beth contact Vera Watson at DA for further information as she had reservations about JMTA participating in this way.  Paulette expressed concerns about using the JMTA 501c3 and Florida solicitation rights for this event since we are not legally affiliated with DA as it is a public school.

Michelle Huang invited everyone to attend her recital on February 22, 2013.
Beth encouraged everyone to stay for the January program.  Dr. Erin Bennett will discuss ways to prepare a high school student for college auditions.

The meeting adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Denise Homsley
JMTA Recording Secretary
