JMTA Meeting and Program JMTA Meeting - January 11, 2012 10:00 A.M. – Business Meeting 10:30 A.M. – Program: Dr. William Schirmer – “Aural Theory 101 Through Advanced Ear Training” 11:30 A.M. Luncheon Club Continental 2143 Astor St. Orange Park, Florida 32073 TO ALL DISTRICT IV MEMBERS: The annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 11th at 10:00 at Club Continental in Orange Park, 2143 Astor Street, 32073. There will be a business meeting at 10:00 a.m. A presentation at 10:30 will given by Dr. Bill Schirmer. He will be giving a program which is directed towards teaching aural theory for Student Day. As most of you know, after levels 5 and 6, there are fewer and fewer students enrolled at the higher levels. One of the reasons is that the aural theory is not easy. It is considered college level theory by level 6 which is why there is a dual track from levels 7-12. Dr. Schirmer will be giving very practical tips and information on how to make this easier for everyone, so please come hear him. Luncheon is at 11:30. The menu is below and the food at Club Continental is very, very good. Please RSVP to Liz Kiebler by Monday, January 9th with your menu choice. The cost is $20.00 per person and is all inclusive (tax, gratuity, etc.). I hope to see you all there. The menu choices are: Asian Grilled Chicken Salad; Sliced Roast Sirloin; Sauteed Tilapia, and Lemon Baked Chiicken Breast. All come with a starch and the daily vegetables. Coffee and tea are unlimited. Liz Kiebler, NCTM, President, District IV From the President’s Pen I hope you all had wonderful and relaxing holidays! Now is the time to polish up those pieces and take practice theory tests for Student Day. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting! At Student Day 2012, students will have the opportunity to excel at and showcase their musical performance, technique, aural skills and knowledge of music theory. The FSMTA District Student Day program is one of the most comprehensive evaluation programs available. Preparation for Student Day sharpens the musical skills of every student. Focused attention to musical details, technique, theory, ear training, and memorizing all serve to cultivate a finer musician, and it all culminates on Student Day where students gather at Florida State College, Jacksonville to test their mettle. Students also have the opportunity to meet fellow musicians as they attend recitals and wait to take their exams. Student Day is a rich, rewarding experience, and when students see their certificates, and the medals are pinned or draped on their neck – they know it was worth every minute! In addition to the medal and certificate District IV provides, FSMTA provides an additional medal signifying those students receiving Honors in Performance, and at least Achievement on their Aural and Written Theory exams. This year each student qualifying to receive a FSMTA medal will be invited to perform in an Honors Recital. The Honors Recital will be held on February 5, 2012 at Peace Presbyterian Church. Thank you to everyone who has submitted applications for their students. Your student schedule will be emailed to you, and you may expect to receive it about two weeks before the event date. I would like to also extend many thanks to all who have volunteered to help. If you have not been assigned a position to help, I will be contacting you soon with an assignment to help with Student Day. Please contact me with any questions you may have about Student Day. Comments from two of our conductors: Dr. MJ Palmer – “Thank you for the opportunity to work with such fine players last evening. From my perspective it was a resounding success. I thought the students played very well also. All my best to you and the teachers who inspire these children.” From Dr. Michael Mastronicola “Thanks for inviting me to serve as a conductor at the 2011 Multiple-Piano Festival.
