The regular student recital will be held at JU on Sunday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. Teachers may enter up to 4-5 students with a limit of 15 minutes total. This recital is open to all students, any age and any level. It is a great opportunity for them to walk out on the stage at Terry Concert Hall and perform on a concert grand piano. Complete information concerning selection and composer, name, age and level of student should be sent to Gavin Taylor one week in advance. The community recital at the Proton Therapy Institute is open to those students who are at the upper-intermediate and advanced levels of performance. This recital is given for the patients and staff at the Institute and is a showcase of JMTA’s talent. Students may choose to play one or two pieces: however, due to a time limit, it is possible that only one piece will be allowed. Please send the complete information to Sandy Stewart on week in advance of the April 16 performance. The recital begins at 6 p.m. Students are welcome to perform at both recitals with the teacher’s permission. Each performer will receive a letter for their school authorizing one and a half hours of community service. -Sandy Stewart District Conference The District Conference which was originally planned for March 15 – 17 has been abbreviated. We will have the Concerto Competitions at Terry Hall, Saturday, March 16. At 3:00 P.M. visiting Artist, Jeffrey Jacobs will be lecturing on and performing George Crumb’s Macrocosmos, Book 2, and his appearance is free of charge. The Student Recital will be held on Sunday, March 17 at 3:00. We hope to schedule a longer conference with workshops and teacher recital in the future. I ask that everyone who can come to Jeffrey Jacobs lecture recital be there to support him. He was originally scheduled to be part of our conference and did not ask for a fee for this. His bio and resume are to long to print but he is very well known and is a fabulous artist/lecturer. It would be to JMTA’s credit to support him. -Liz Kiebler 2013 FSMTA CONFERENCE I trust that by this time all of you know that Districts 3 and 4 ( Gainesville and Jacksonville respectively) are hosting the 2013 FSMTA CONFERENCE which will be held here in Jacksonville on November 6-9, 2013 ( Wednesday through Saturday). The conference will be held at the beautiful downtown Omni Jacksonville. The steering committee for the conference began with Beth Martelli, Sue Holder, Sandra Stewart, Liz Kiebler and Jo Plunkett. These people got the ball rolling in preparation for this conference. Lorraine Eaton, Paulette Kilts, Martha McKie, and Denise Homsley joined the steering committee in short order. Each of these people has a major responsibility to arrange, prepare for and over see for the conference. They will be calling on YOU to work on a part of our hosting the conference. Please be willing to assist, whether as a part of a particular team or in a major roll. Everyone is needed. We have always had wonderful conferences in Jacksonville. People remember and talk about the FSMTA CONFERENCES that have been held in Jacksonville years after the fact with many fond memories. This year can be no different….. We will make it a GREAT CONFERENCE. But we need everyone to pitch in and do their part. We are all busy, our time is maxed out, our plates are full and overflowing with things to do. As a member of Jacksonville Music Teachers and Florida State Music Teachers, it is not only our honor but it is also our responsibility and obligation to be of a part of making this conference one to be remembered! But it takes all of us…. Not just a hand full of members. We are counting on each of you and we are depending on each other! Thank you in advance for your assistance and support! ~ Jo Plunkett 2013 FSMTA CONFERENCE ADVISOR Apologies for the formatting in the Calendar. Technical difficulties with the website.
