District IV is holding a meeting on Wednesday, November 13th, at Keyboard Connection at 9:30a. This will be a short meeting to discuss upcoming District events including Student Day, Concerto Competition, and Teachers Recital. There will also be a time of sharing our thoughts and experiences from the FSMTA Conference.
Please note, this date has been changed from the previously scheduled date of Tuesday, Nov. 12th.
The FSMTA Annual Conference 2013 is here! Are you excited? I sure am. This is a great opportunity for you to learn lots of new stuff and meet lots of new people, without having to go very far! You can still register, today, and even at the conference. The registration desk will be open select hours throughout the event. There are one-day registrations and a la carte registrations available if you cannot commit to the whole event. Please come out for something! If you’d like to know all of the events that are happening, check out the daily schedule posted on fmta.org. Just click on “Conference” on the left hand column for all the details! Then, please join us for our District Meeting on Nov. 13th, to learn about upcoming District events, and also a time of sharing about all the fun and learning you had at the Conference!

JMTA General Meeting – October 9, 2013

President Lorraine Eaton called the meeting to order at 9:39 a.m.
Minutes from September meeting read and approved.
Treasurer’s report given by Paulette Kilts.
Membership: 60 members to date. A few more should be renewing.
Student Day: Denise reported that student fee will be increased to $30 per vote at board meeting. February 1 will be date per approval from FSCJ. $15 will be new fee for teacher’s lunch. Deadline for applications will be December 21. Denise has an FAQ sheet that will be uploaded to the website.
Conference 2013: Jo encouraged everyone to register and to volunteer. Please stay at the Omni Hotel if possible. Students can attend Friday concert for free. Students can attend Friday workshops and speaker for free. Volunteers still needed for all areas!! Items still needed for the Silent Auction.
Altruistic: A card for a moving member will be sent.
Certifications: See Sue Holder.
Communications: Deadline is the 20th for High Notes.
Community Service: Deadline has been moved up. Please see state website for further information.
Historian: Nicki brought the scrapbook today for everyone to view. Please send or mail any photos to add.
Internet Media: Last two years of High Notes are on the website. Several years of High Notes are available in binders with the Recording Secretary. “Like” JMTA on Facebook and spread the news about the conference!
Programs: Tuesday, November 12, is our next meeting. It is a District meeting. The next JMTA meeting will be in January.
Scholarship: Kamila and her committee came up with guidelines for summer music camp scholarships. The committee will next come up with a form for applicants to complete. We now have the High School Senior Scholarship and the Summer Music Camp Scholarship. A note was made to update this in the Constitution and Bylaws.
Social: Betty extended thanks to those who brought refreshments today and to those who are signed up to bring future refreshments.
Recitals: The October 13 Student Recital will now also include solos as well as duets. Please send in information for participants as soon as possible. It will be at Peace Presbyterian.
Please continue contacting members who have not attended in awhile.
Tara Mock, our current Recording Secretary, is moving to Raleigh, NC at the end of October. Lisa Smith will be the new Recording Secretary effective as of November.
Our next meeting will be on January 8, 2014 at Keyboard Connection. The program will be Sandra Stewart on “Teaching Tips for Today’s Students.”
FSMTA Annual State Conference will be Nov. 6-9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel in Jacksonville.

FSMTA CONFERENCE TIME IS HERE!!
DISTRICT 4 HAS BEEN WORKING TIRELESSLY FOR MANY MONTHS TO HOST THE FSMTA CONFERENCE. THE TIME FOR THE CONFERENCE IS IN JUST A FEW DAYS. PLEASE MAKE PLANS TO TRY TO ATTEND SOME, IF NOT ALL, OF THE CONFERENCE YOUR STEERING COMMITTEE HAS PLANNED. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE AT THE FSMTA CONFERENCE NOVEMBER 6-9, 2013 AT THE JACKSONVILLE OMNI.
Please note the Conference planning committee has made the following change on the registration form:
Students may attend the Friday, November 8- 8:30 p.m. Concert artist program FREE of charge. Adult tickets are $20. Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 7:45 p.m. Please invite your students to attend. Your students and parents are invited to attend the Thursday, November 7 – 8:30 p.m. FSMTA Winner’s Recital. Student and adult tickets are priced the same at $10. Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 7:45 p.m.
Note of clarification: Members or non-member guests who register for the Full registration receive the following: 3 continental breakfasts, admission to all programs, Friday banquet, Thursday and Friday evening concerts and all recitals. It does NOT include the Wednesday Welcome Dinner or Thursday Foundation Gala events.
