District IV Meeting
November’s meeting is planned to be a District IV meeting. At this time, full details are not available. An email blast will be sent to membership as soon as details are confirmed. It is important that the members of District IV attend this meeting, as we will be voting on a new District Board. Our next JMTA General Meeting is January 14, 2015, at Keyboard Connection. There are no meetings scheduled for December. Enjoy your Holidays! ________________________________________________________________________ President’s Pen I had the opportunity to fully experience a FSMTA Conference for the first time. In the past, I had either been helping to organize it in Jacksonville, or just spending a day at one close by, like Daytona. It was tiring, but invigorating at the same time. What I love most about the conferences is the plethora of topics to choose from when attending sessions. These sessions are mostly presented by other FSMTA members. What a wealth of knowledge we have in our state membership! I’m so excited to learn about new things, like iPad apps from today’s times, and then I go back in time to learn about parlor music of the antebellum south, and personal tidbits about composers such as Beethoven and Haydn. One very exciting thing that occurred is that UNF got their new Collegiate Chapter approved by the State Board! There were several UNF students in attendance, as well as students from Collegiate Chapters across the state. I had the opportunity to meet these students, and was refreshed by their eagerness as they are just starting their journey in the world of music as adults. JMTA will be working with Erin Bennett (UNF Collegiate Chapter Faculty Advisor) to ensure that these students become an integral part of JMTA, FSMTA, and MTNA so they can infuse us with their eagerness and fresh ideas! Yes, the state conferences are expensive, and yes, they take time from your teaching, but the rewards are so worth it. I hope to see you next year in Ft. Myers at the 2015 Conference! ~Lorraine Eaton, JMTA President ________________________________________________________________________ JMTA Welcomes New Members Minghui Phebe Yeo Snead has a Master of Music Degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of St. Thomas and a Bachelor’s Degree from North Central University.
