President’s Pen
Greetings to my fellow music teachers,

The FSMTA Conference in Coral Gables was great! I shared some of the high points at the October general meeting. Kamila Shahtakhtinski was our representative in the Teachers’ Recital. She did a FANTASTIC job and ended with a grand flourish! Thank you, Kamila. I roomed with Paulette Kilts and learned so much from her. She is a wealth of information! Mary Lou Krosnick’s student Amy Lao was the State Concerto Winner. Amy (and Mary Lou) gave an impressive performance in the Student Winners Recital. I feel privileged to have been able to attend the Conference.

Next year’s State Conference will be in Gainesville, right in our own backyard. I encourage ALL of you to attend and help. Karen Schaefer from Gainesville sent a list of duties and volunteers. She still needs monitors for each session to hand out programs and count the number of attendees; registration desk workers who will stay at the desk at least 2 hours; and other jobs as Karen notifies us. Denise Homsley is the conference registrar. Thank you, Denise.

We invite you to attend our next general meeting at Keyboard Connection on Wednesday, November 7th at 9:15 (meet and greet) with the meeting at 9:30. NOTE the change in date from our usual second Wednesday! Our own Jack Melvin, owner of Keyboard Connection, will present the program. Jack’s presentations are always informative and entertaining. See Anita Renfroe’s post for the program description. You want to be there!

Our numbers are growing! Congratulations to Erin Bennett on the birth of her son and to Kama Rasmussen-Li on the birth of her daughter. We wish both happy families well.

We will be reviewing the changes to our Constitution and Bylaws (to conform to the FSMTA changes) so that we can vote on these at a later meeting. Many thanks to Paulette Kilts for providing a concise account of the proposed changes.

The fees for this year’s general meeting presenters are covered. The fees for next year will be determined before a new budget is passed.

Since this is our last meeting before Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year, I wish you all a Blessed Holiday Season! I am thankful to be part of an organization that has such fine members! Thank you for all that you do for JMTA.

Blessings,
Dr. Sandra Roberts
President, JMTA

JMTA Treasurer Needed
This spring will be nominating and election time for the new set of board members. Board members are installed in May, and serve a term of two years. They may be re-elected for a second term.

A hard position to fill is Treasurer. Lorraine Eaton is on her second term as Treasurer, so we need someone willing to be nominated for the role. It is not very time consuming, about 2 hours of time per month. Yes, there is a lot of bookkeeping to keep up with, but there are also detailed notes in the Manual of Procedures on how to accomplish all this. You would just need to stay organized and on top of it. Please consider taking on this position for the coming term. If you have any more detailed questions on what the position entails, please contact Lorraine. You would also be trained on how to do everything before it just being handed over to you.

This is an important position in our organization, and we need each and every member to help out so JMTA can run smoothly.
