JMTA General Meeting
President’s Pen Greetings to my Music Teacher Colleagues: I hope that you survived Hurricane Irma in good shape and that you are back to sharing music with your students. My week without power was uncomfortably hot and sticky. I have great appreciation for air conditioning! Our September meeting is “Gone With the Wind,” (apologies to Margaret Mitchell) so we move on to October. Our next JMTA meeting is Wednesday, October 11th at Keyboard Connection. We will meet and greet at 9:30 am with the meeting beginning at 10:00. Denise Homsley will present a program about Student Day preparation. We can all use tips and resources to help our students prepare for this important evaluation. The FSMTA Conference is being rescheduled, since the Coral Gables Biltmore Hotel postponed it due to Irma. The new date should be announced shortly. Perhaps some of you would also be able to attend when the date is announced. I plan to drive and would welcome fellow passengers. If you have music and/or music resource materials that you would like to share (free), please bring them to the meeting. Your “music discards” may be someone else’s “music treasures.” See you at the October meeting! Dr. Sandra Roberts JMTA President ________________________________________________________________________ We extend our deepest sympathy to JMTA member Sarah Blazs Murphy and family in the loss of her beloved grandmother, longtime JMTA member Jeannie Blazs. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. ________________________________________________________________________ Note: There are no meeting minutes or treasurer’s reports since there was no September meeting. ________________________________________________________________________ 2017-2018 JMTA Proposed Budget
Attention Greater-Jacksonville Piano Teachers: There are a number of changes to this year’s Outstanding Young Pianists Competition at Friday Musicale! We have a later deadline for applications, and the audition day is in January, only a week before the winner’s recital! We are also accepting chamber ensembles for the Ensemble Category. In addition to piano duos, trios, and quartets, pre-formed ensembles are invited to perform with other instruments, such as a violin, cello, and piano trio or similar. These changes reflect suggestions from families who have participated and teachers like you.
________________________________________________________________________ JMTA ‘Open Mic’ Event Teachers are invited to perform! Join us at Keyboard Connection on Wednesday, January 10th, at 10:30 am for another JMTA ‘open mic’ event. This is an informal recital for all members who want to perform a solo or duet or chamber music on one of Keyboard Connections’ wonderful grand pianos. You may perform on ANY instrument or voice. Memorization is not required, just an interest in sharing music that you want to perform for a friendly audience. The meeting is at 9:30 am at Keyboard Connections; the teacher’s recital is from 10:30-11:30 am. Let Michael Mastronicola know that you are interested in performing, and the length and title of your solo by January 5th. You have lots of time to prepare–so save the date and plan to play something! Contact Michael at 904-402-6480 or [email protected] ________________________________________________________________________ Music Exchange Do you have too much music collected in your studio? Is there some you think you’ll never use? Let’s have a music exchange! Bring your unwanted music to any JMTA meeting. Bring home something new to you! Look for the “Free Music” spot. Music does not have to be brand new. ________________________________________________________________________ District IV Concerto Competition

_____________________________________________________________________ Do you remember Sue Mullins? A former student of Ms. Mullins is looking for any biographical information someone in JMTA might have on her. She was president of JMTA in 1952-54. She went to Avondale Baptist Church. If you have any information, or can help in any way, please contact her former student, Tom Killian, at [email protected]. Thank you. ________________________________________________________________________ jaxmta.org Find a Teacher The “Find a Teacher” section on the website has been recently reorganized. Additional areas of town have been added, which may have caused your listing to move to a different sub-tab. On the main page, all zip codes are listed under which area of town they represent. The actual listings have not changed. Please review this section of the website and let me know if you find any errors or edits that need to be made. Thank you. ~Lorraine Eaton, website administrator ________________________________________________________________________ Check out those shoulder pads! We’ve had lots of pictures taken over the years. We have some dating back to the 80s! All of our photos and scrapbook pages have been digitally scanned and are available for viewing anytime on the archive page of the state website, fmta.org. All of the physical copies of the old pictures and scrapbooks will be put out for you to take at the next several meetings. Please take a look and keep any pictures you like. Whatever is left will be thrown away. ________________________________________________________________________ Have you found us on Facebook?
